I read this aloud to my students after my Yoga classes around Christmas time and just found this again, I thought I would share it before it's forgotten.
As People pass away or drift away I come to the realization that our family has become smaller in terms of place settings at the dinner table, I also have to acknowledge the blessings we have been fortunate to have up until now
For those of us that remain at the Christmas dinner I know we will all be looking forward to Christmas presence.
No, that's not a mistake. I meant to say 'presence' instead of 'presents' because that is what I truly wish for Christmas.
Lots and lots of presence. I don't wish for presence just for myself, but presence for everyone else as well.
I wish for the presence of respect. The presence of respect allows for the sharing of ideas, culture, and values.
I wish for the presence of friendships. The presence of friends to lean on when times are rough as well as their presence in times of celebration.
I wish for the presence of hope. Enough hope to carry us through the dark and keep us moving forward during the toughest of journeys.
I wish for the presence of laughter. To be able to not only share laughter with others but to be blessed enough to laugh at ourselves.
I wish for the presence of humbleness. To be able to recognize that much of what we enjoy is the result of another's contributions. Contributions from parents, coworkers, friends and neighbors. That in some cases people we have never met and will never know have contributed to the point of sacrificing. Some by having less for themselves. Others by giving their very lives for our freedom.
Have a very present Christmas.
